Leadership
Flight Simulator
Practice complex, high-stakes leadership decisions in a safe environment, before the moment counts.
Pilots train in simulators before they fly
Pilots log hours in a simulator before they carry passengers. Leaders mostly get theory, then face the real decision with no rehearsal.
Insight alone does not build capability. Leadership is learned through practice. The Leadership Flight Simulator gives you a place to make the hardest calls and watch the consequences arrive.
Read the argument in Can Leadership Be Learned? and Prestige Isn’t Pedagogy. The practice loop that underpins the simulator is the 4A’s Journey: Awareness, Ask, Act, Adapt.
“Experience isn’t just about logging flight hours - it’s about making meaning from them.”
“Complex leadership skills require experiential learning - practice in lab-like environments where you can experiment without real-world consequences.”
Step in, decide, and live with the consequences
It is a flight simulator for complex leadership decisions. You step into an evolving scenario, decide how to engage, and the people around you react. Each round takes about an hour. Every option carries a cost, and the cost shows up later, in places you did not expect.
The costs stay inside the simulation. In your real role you get one run at a decision, and you carry whatever it breaks. Here you can take the same decision again, choose differently, and watch a different set of consequences unfold.
Afterward a structured debrief maps what you chose against what it cost and what it opened up.
Per-decision analysis
You see your reasoning, the outcomes, the ripple effects, and what you missed for each decision.
Alternative approaches
You see the approaches you did not take, and what they would have cost.
Recurring patterns
You see the patterns that repeat across your decisions.
Focus areas
You get specific focus areas for your next leadership situation.
Four leadership challenges
A restructuring challenge
You are changing how the organization works while everyone is still doing the job. People know something is coming and nobody knows where they will land.
An integration challenge
Two groups that have always run separately now have to become one. Each of them is quietly certain their way is the right way.
A scaling challenge
Growth is outrunning the structures meant to hold it. What worked comfortably at the old size is breaking at the new one, mostly out of sight.
An innovation culture challenge
You have been told to make the place inventive again. The habits that made it successful are the same ones now standing in the way.
Six worlds for the same challenge
The challenge stays the same. The industry, the people in the room, and what you stand to lose change.
A research institute
Scientists do the work, external funders are watching, and the institute's reputation rests on it.
A cloud software company
Senior leaders are pressing the product and commercial teams, and the window to compete is closing.
A climate non-profit
The board is watching, and community partnerships have to survive long after this work ends.
A government agency
A minister has set a short deadline, and a public promise has already been made.
A regional development bank
The board has committed in public, and relationships with borrower countries are at stake.
A consumer brand owned by private equity
The investment case depends on how this goes.
We recommend multiple flights. Each time you run it, the scenario responds differently to your choices, so you can build your flight hours and train your intuition. It is built on the adaptive leadership model with our expertise and best practice layered in.
Built for capability at scale
The simulator is for leadership programs, cohorts, and firms that are building leadership capability at scale.
It runs inside our programs and as a standalone for coaching engagements. It is delivered through KS Insight engagements.
